Jebel Shams or the Sun Mountain is the highest mountain of Oman and part of the Al Hajar Mountain Range, popularly referred to as the Grand Canyon of Oman. It is roughly 250 kilometres southwest of Muscat. It is one of the most popular hiking, trekking and camping sites in the country. With an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius in the winter and at least an average 15 degrees cooler than Muscat in the summer, Jebel Shams is a wonderful vacation spot all year round. The Jebel Shams Resort is located at the mountain and remains one of the tourist hubs of the region.
